Celebrating 105 Years of PIH Health Downey Hospital
Downey, Calif. (September 15, 2025) – PIH Health Downey Hospital proudly marks its 105th anniversary this year, celebrating the organization’s continued growth and innovation, guided by its mission to provide exceptional care to the patients and communities it serves.
What began on September 13, 1920, as Downey Hospital with just two doctors and six beds, has grown into a trusted cornerstone of the community, caring for generations of residents for more than a century. Today, PIH Health Downey Hospital stands as a thriving center of care with 199 licensed beds powered by 1,250 employees, 478 medical staff, and 289 volunteers. Together, we provide care for more than 62,000 emergency visits, 1,158 inpatient admissions, and over 108,000 outpatient visits each year.
