In July 2010, the City of Brea, California, launched a comprehensive Energy Efficiency and Solar Power project that will deliver significant savings by improving energy efficiency, reducing energy costs, and incorporating renewable power generation. The landmark project has many economic and environmental benefits and will position Brea as the largest municipal producer of solar energy in Orange County! The actual construction of the project will be getting started at the Civic & Cultural Center on Tuesday August 17.
Key Impacts: Scaffolding and a comprehensive system of protective barriers will be constructed around the entire area under the atrium. Safe access and egress from all offices on the plaza and second floor will be fully maintained. Regular access to all areas will be restored between the middle and the end of October.
Key Benefits: The Energy improvements and installations associated with this comprehensive Energy Efficiency & Solar Power Project will offset the production of 86,884 metric tons of CO2 emissions over 25 years- which is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of 16,613 cars over the life of the project.
This project will help Brea and California meet the goals of AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power: Rooftop photovoltaic PV systems will be installed at the Civic and Cultural Arts Center as well as two other City-owned facilities. The project is being designed and constructed by Chevron Energy Solutions, a division of Chevron U.S.A. Inc. The solar systems being installed are just one component of the comprehensive solar energy & efficiency project.
